Tips For Soothing Your Skin And Stopping Itching

Whether your skin itches from a chronic medical issue such as eczema or if you got too close to the poison oak while hiking this weekend, these tips will help you soothe your skin and stop that miserable itching dead in its tracks:

Tip: Put Some Aloe Vera on the Itching Area

One of the best natural things you can put on your skin for itching or sunburns is the extract from an aloe vera plant. Aloe vera is a type of cactus and its extract is wonderful for reducing itching, sunburn pain, and other skin irritations.

You can purchase aloe vera extract gels at any pharmacy and it can safely be applied to your skin as often as necessary without any negative side effects.

Tip: Keep Your Skin Moisturized

When your skin dries out, it is more likely to itch and cause eczema flare-ups. By simply keeping your skin moisturized, you can greatly reduce unnecessary itching and flaking skin. You can improve your skin's moisture level by avoiding harsh soaps and using a high-quality moisturizing lotion on a daily basis.

Tip: Place an Ice Pack on the Itching Area

For itching that is only in one small area such as a mosquito bite or poison ivy rash, placing an ice pack on the area will provide immediate relief from the itching. Rather than putting the ice pack directly on your skin which could cause frostbite, instead, wrap it in a towel or a washcloth. If you do not have an ice pack, then you can always substitute a bag of frozen vegetables or put some ice cubes into a plastic zipper bag.

Tip: Take a Cool Bath with Soothing Additives

If you have a large itchy area of skin or nothing else you have tried is alleviating the itching, then run a cool bath and add one of the following things:

  • apple cider vinegar
  • baking soda
  • milk

By adding one of these things into the water, you will get the soothing benefit of both the cool water and the additive.

Tip: See a Dermatologist for Next-Level Treatment

Finally, if your skin is frequently itching from eczema or another chronic skin condition, then it is time to see a dermatologist. There are many medicated soaps, lotions, and ointments a dermatologist can prescribe to lessen your skin's itching and irritation. There really is no reason to suffer from this problem any longer since professional help is available.
